John V. DiMatteo, of Bethany, Conn., was elected president of the Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut Inc. yesterday during the association's annual convention.

The new head of PIA Connecticut is president of A.A. DiMatteo Insurance Service Center, which has offices in Trumbull, Orange and Bethany, Conn.

Mr. DiMatteo told his membership he hoped the association would work with state legislators on new issues, such as concerns with homeowners' inquiries and claims, rebating, and better communication about how credit scores affect policyholders.

The association said it supports two bills that prohibit insurance companies from taking adverse action based on a property's losses under a previous owner, or because a consumer has made a policy or coverage inquiry, or for the reporting of a claim for which no payment is made.

Another bill would raise the financial limits for motorists to reflect current actual loss value in collisions and provide additional protection to those not at fault in an accident.

Mr. DiMatteo said he would work for clarification or reform of the state workers' compensation insurance plan to identify whether a subcontractor is an employee or an independent contractor.

The association also announced the election of:

o Christopher Wilson, general manager for C.V. Mason & Co. in Bristol, Conn., president-elect.

o James Goodman, president of Goodman Insurance Inc. in Shelton, Conn., vice president.

o Michael F. Keating, president of Michael J. Keating Agency Inc. in W. Hartford, Conn., vice president.

o Diane L. Eger, vice president of Orange Insurance Center in Orange, Conn., treasurer.

o Howard Olderman, vice president and producer of Olderman and Hallihan Agency Inc. in Ansonia, Conn., secretary.

o Joseph Bishop III, vice president and secretary of Associated Insurance Agencies Inc. in Hamden, Conn., was named immediate past president.
