American International Group Inc. said it has named Olin L. Wethington, a veteran U.S. Treasury official, as chairman of AIG Companies in China, a new position.
AIG said Mr. Wethington will oversee expansion of the company's businesses in China. He will report to Edmund S.W. Tse, AIG senior vice chairman. The company said he will work closely with Mr. Tse and Martin J. Sullivan, AIG president and chief executive officer.
Mr. Wethington has served in a variety of senior positions in the U.S. Treasury Department. He served as special envoy on China in 2005.
His other posts have included serving as counselor to the Treasury secretary, and as assistant secretary for international affairs.
In addition, he was formerly director of economic policy for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq; special assistant to the president, and executive secretary to the Economic Policy Council, the White House. He also served as U.S. Commerce Department deputy under the secretary for international trade.
