The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies said it is now offering commercial auto insurance in West Virginia, making it the 48th state in which the company sells the coverage.

The Mayfield Village, Ohio-based insurer said that the coverage, which had been unavailable in any form in West Virginia, will be available through Progressive Direct, its direct market distribution, by phone or the Internet, and Progressive Drive, coverage sold through independent agents.

Progressive noted that when it comes to commercial insurance most consumers choose to purchase it through independent agents.

The carrier said Drive commercial auto would aim to fulfill the commercial auto insurance needs of small businesses, insuring fleets of up to 20 vehicles with policy limits of up to $1 million. Progressive said it would provide flexible payment plans and secure online payment processing by credit or debit card.

Progressive said its aim is to dominate the truck market. It's commercial auto accepts a wide variety of business types, including tradesmen, contractors, construction, sales, trucking, landscaping, towing, and farming and dump trucks.

"We're proud to offer West Virginia independent agents and small-business owners another choice for their commercial auto needs," said Brett Stalnaker, West Virginia product manager, Drive Commercial Auto. "For agents, our technology makes it easy to do business with us. For small-business owners, our combination of price and superior service make us a terrific choice."

Progressive commercial auto is not available in Hawaii, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.
