CPCU Society said it is celebrating March as Ethics Awareness Month, with workshops and talks to emphasize its 26,000 members' commitment to ethical behavior.
The Malvern, Pa.-based group for credentialing of insurance professionals said each year it recognizes Ethics Awareness Month by encouraging its 153 chapters to host ethics-related activities.
CPCU Society said participating chapters choose a number of ways to mark the occasion, including conducting group discussions on ethics, hosting luncheons with local speakers, and offering educational seminars.
"CPCUs take personal responsibility for their ethical behavior, and Ethics Awareness Month simply reinforces that we must continue to demonstrate our commitment to the highest ethical standards," said the Society's president, Millicent W. Workman.
This year, the Society said it has teamed with the International Risk Management Institute Inc. (IRMI) to develop a new ethics program titled "Ethics Considerations for Property & Casualty Insurance Professionals." Content from this program can be downloaded from the CPCU Society's Web site at www.cpcusociety.org.
The organization also said that CPCU Society member Elise M. Farnham has designed a program titled "Ethical Fitness: An Ethics Workout for the Insurance Professional," which is an interactive seminar using case studies.
Catherine Gates, senior technical training consultant for Montgomery Insurance, has created and contributed a new article for discussion titled "What is Ethics?" Both can be downloaded from the CPCU Web site, the Society said.
Chapter meetings on ethics, the Society said, have included speakers with several approaches to delivering inspirational messages on ethics, ethical values and ethical decision-making.
The group said chapters with the most unique and effective way to present ethics awareness will win an award, which will be presented to their chapter's representative during the CPCU Society's Leadership Summit, April 29 in Phoenix.
More information about the Society's Ethics Awareness Month activities is online at www.cpcusociety.org, through the Ethics link under "About the CPCU Society."
CPCU Society members hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, which requires passing eight undergraduate and graduate level examinations, experience requirements, and agreeing to a strict code of professional ethics.
