Improvements in workplace safety have helped facilitate about $100 million in 2006 workers' compensation premium savings for Pennsylvania businesses, the state's governor said this week.
Governor Edward Rendell said this is the third time in four years the state has reduced workers' comp premiums.
The state's Department of Labor and Industry Certified Workplace Safety Committee program helps businesses establish safety programs that protect workers. Such certified businesses receive a 5 percent discount on their workers' comp premiums, in addition to the 8.5 percent reduction announced this week.
"Workplace injuries are near record low levels, but we cannot rest until every worker returns home safety," Gov. Rendell said.
