Claims News Service, Feb. 6, 9:59 a.m. EST — Hurricane Katrina victims throughout the Gulf Coast are re-opening previously settled claims with their insurance companies by using the services of public adjusters to collect on un-paid or potentially underpaid settlements.

According to Insurance Claim Consultants, a Florida-based public adjusting firm which does business as The Public Adjusters, some residential and business owners are re-opening Hurricane Katrina claims, believing that their claims may have not been properly adjusted, or important areas of the coverages and/or damages possibly overlooked.”There is certain policy language and time limitations that enable claimants to re-open their insurance claims in the event undiscovered damages or policy entitlements went uncovered,” said Ronald Delo, representative of The Public Adjusters.
