The con-artist and security expert who became a household name when his story was made into the movie, Catch Me If You Can, has signed on as the spokesman for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' new anti-fraud campaign.

The NAIC has developed a comprehensive campaign to increase awareness of fraudulent insurance sales, starring Frank Abagnale. “Mr. Abagnale certainly has the experience,” said Alice Molasky-Arman, who chairs the NAIC Unauthorized Entity Media Outreach Subgroup. “For our spokesperson, we wanted someone with a national recognition and a media appeal and a strong tie to the issue at hand.”

The NAIC also is looking for fraud victims to speak about their experiences. “I believe that we still need to have some victims who are not ashamed to tell their stories, and if any of the states know individuals who might be willing to share what has happened to them, and to teach others how to avoid such fraud, it would be very, very helpful,” she said.
