Motorists Experience Seven-Year Accident Cycle

The average Australian motorist can expect to be involved in a crash every seven years, according to a recent report from the news service, ABC Canberra. The research was conducted by NRMA, which repairs or replaces more than 150,000 cars in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory every year. The insurer also discovered that young men in the ACT are more likely to be responsible for motor vehicle crashes than are women. Perhaps not surprisingly, Friday afternoons and evenings are the most dangerous time for drivers to be on the region's road, the study found.

“We're all hurrying around on a Friday,” David Piper, a spokesman for the company, told ABC. “We're picking up kids from school, we're trying to do the last job, we're trying to go too fast for the weekend, or we're probably trying to get out of town. And then, between 6 pm and 9 pm on the same day, on Fridays, people are driving home, and I think alcohol probably has a contribution to that.”
