Claims News Service, Oct. 5, 12:38 p.m. EDT -- Guy Carpenter, a reinsurance intermediary, has released a report on the newly formed Tropical Storm Tammy. The storm is located approximately 130 miles southeast of Jacksonville in Florida and packs sustained winds of around 40 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm is predicted to travel in a north-northwest direction and strengthen over the next 12 hours. Tropical storm-force winds extend 115 miles from the center of the storm.
A tropical storm warning has been issued from Cocoa Beach in Florida to South Santee River in
South Carolina. Between 5 and 10 inches of rain is expected to fall in parts of northern Florida and south-eastern regions of Georgia and the Carolinas. The NHC also warned that tornadoes could touchdown in northeastern Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Forecasters said Tammy is expected to track north-northwest along the eastern Florida coastline before moving inland over northeast Florida later today and central Georgia early Thursday. Forecasters said Tammy is unlikely to reach hurricane strength during this time. Tammy is the 19th named storm to develop during this year's North Atlantic hurricane season, making it the second-busiest on record.
The NHC has produced the following estimates (as of today) of U.S. landfall probability within 65 nautical miles of the following cities from today to 08:00 EST Saturday.
1. Fort Pierce, Florida - probability of 99%
2. Cocoa Beach, Florida - probability of 99%
