Claims News Service, Sept. 29, 8:30 a.m. EDT – Numerous companies contracted to clean up and restore services in the disaster areas hit by Hurricane Katrina have the need to vaccinate workers to prevent infectious diseases that could result from water contamination and lack of sanitation in the region.

Passport Health affiliates across the country have been preparing a variety of people who will offer relief services including claim adjusters, oil rig workers, morticians, FEMA personnel, and other first responders.

The vaccines deal with disease that can be caused by sewage, soil and contaminated food and water – Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus/Diphtheria. These vaccines are included in the initial Centers for Disease Control recommendations. Further recommendations will be based on specific risks in each area.
