Guy Carpenter has updated its proprietary software in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The tool, available at www.guycarp.com, helps assess properties at a potential risk of loss in the hurricane-stricken region by inputting a specific street address to view pre-event satellite images overlaid with FEMA's actual flood footprint.

The FEMA flood footprint shows initial flood assessments ranging from "saturated" to "flooded" and hurricane damage assessments ranging from "light" to "catastrophic".

This innovative tool is offered through i-aXs -- Guy Carpenter's proprietary exposure management platform. A number of updates have been made to the i-aXs site to cope with demand. The initial site was receiving upwards of 40 image requests a second, which caused some down time.

Tips on using the system:

1. A correct address must be used to get the tool to geocode and zoom in .

Try a different combination of address if you are unsuccessful at first.

2. You can draw a box on the image by clicking and holding your mouse.

This will cause a zoom to the location within the box.

3. The arrows on the edges of the map shift the image in that direction

by clicking on them.
