The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies said it has organized its team of lobbyists to push an "aggressive" agenda in state legislatures next year.
Indianapolis-based NAMIC said five regional state affairs managers (SAMs) are in place and will address legislation to be
introduced in the 44 state legislatures holding sessions in 2006.
"NAMIC member companies have established an aggressive advocacy agenda
for 2006 and our staff is well placed to provide representation before state legislatures and insurance regulators," said Senior Director of State Advocacy Neil Alldredge.
He said NAMIC will continue its practice of collaboration with state insurance trade associations. The five SAMs will report to Alldredge.
Tops on the list of issues that NAMIC said it will lobby for are rate modernization, protection of underwriting freedoms and opposition to the mandatory implementation of federal Sarbanes-Oxley Act-type accounting standards for non-public insurance companies.
NAMIC said its SAMs are:
o Paul Tetrault for the Northeast Region of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
o Christian Rataj for the West Region of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
o David Reddick for the Southeast Region of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
o Tami Stanton representing members in Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and the District of Columbia.
o Joe Thesing for NAMIC advocacy in Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
