The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies said it would aggregate financial contributions from member companies and their employees interested in helping those in need.
The Indianapolis, Ind.-based company association said all funds NAMIC receives would be donated to the American Red Cross and used to help supply the basic necessities of life for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
All handling costs and credit card processing fees will be absorbed by NAMIC and its affiliated organization, Assurance Partners Bank (APB). APB will also serve as custodian for the funds until forwarded to the Red Cross, NAMIC said.
Companies or individuals can invited make a contribution through the Internet at http://www.namic.org/mir/mir.asp or by sending a check payable to: Mutual Insurers Respond, c/o NAMIC, 3601 Vincennes Road, Indianapolis, Ind. 46268.
NAMIC said it also is collecting stories about unique ways the industry is raising money.
Chuck Chamness, NAMIC president, said the association's staff already has collected $1,265 for relief efforts through a "Casual Friday" fundraiser.
"I hope that you will join with your colleagues to support this effort," he said. "Together, in the spirit of mutual insurance–neighbor helping neighbor–we can make a difference."
