American International Group announced last night that it named David Herzog as comptroller and Robert Gender as treasurer.

Both Mr. Herzog and Mr. Gender have been AIG employees for a number of years. In their new positions, both men will report to Steven Bensinger, AIG executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Mr. Herzog has been serving as chief financial officer at AIG's Worldwide Life Insurance operations since last year. Previously, he served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer of AIG's domestic life insurers, a position he held since the acquisition of American General Corp. in 2001.

Mr. Gender has been serving as AIG assistant treasurer since 2000, with responsibilities including managing AIG's banking relations, liquidity and corporate finance. He came aboard at AIG in 1998 as director of financial analysis in the treasury department.

AIG, which has been under intense regulatory scrutiny in recent months for accounting improprieties, revealed earlier this month that it inflated earnings by $3.9 billion during the past five-year period.
