NU Online News Service, May 18, 3:52 p.m. EDT–Former child star Tatum O'Neal is being sued by her insurer over a fire at her New York apartment which the carrier claims was caused by the actress's "carelessness."
According to the New York County's Manhattan Supreme Court records office, Ms. O'Neal's insurance company, Merrimack Mutual Fire Insurance, filed an action Monday against the former child actress who appeared in the movies "Paper Moon" and "The Bad News Bears."
The case involves a fire at the actress's apartment in April, for which Merrimack Mutual Fire Insurance already has paid more than $70,000 in claims money to Ms. O'Neal's building.
But the insurer stated in its complaint this week that it wants Ms. O'Neal to reimburse the money, charging that the fire was a result of "carelessness, recklessness and negligence."
