AIG Still 'World Leader', U.K. Authority Rules
NU Online News Service, April 13, 3:35 p.m. EDT?American International Group, the insurance giant embroiled in regulatory probes in the United States, might find small comfort in a U.K. ruling that the company can still bill itself as the world's leading insurer.[@@]
Last week in the U.K., The Advertising Standards Authority, which oversees marketing and advertising policy in Britain, ruled that the insurer can continue to call itself "the world's leading insurance and financial services organization."
The ruling came after the group received a complaint from a U.K. financial advisor, who challenged the embattled insurer's advertising in Britain.
The supervisory group, however, dismissed the complaint. It said that based on AIG's business volume, market capitalization and financial strength, the group does not object to the insurer's claim in U.K. advertisements.
