Mexican Auto Thefts Now In ISO Database
NU Online News Service, March 15, 1:30 p.m. EST?Insurance Services Office (ISO) has announced that its Automobile-Property Loss Underwriting Service (A-PLUS) database has been enhanced to cross-check for automobiles reported stolen in Mexico and transported to the U.S.[@@]
According to Jersey City, N.J.-based ISO, the Mexico Theft Alert Service is available via an agreement between ISO and the Coordinating Office of Insured Risks and the Mexican Association of Insurance Companies (OCRA-AMIS).
Starting today, all auto insurers who contribute auto loss history claims information to the ISO database will be able to participate in the new service.
If a car is reported stolen in Mexico, the system will cross-check for matches of cars brought into the U.S., ISO explained. If there is a match, the information on the report is enhanced to include make, model and model year information on the stolen car.
A-PLUS will inform the U.S. insurer that the vehicle being underwritten has been reported stolen and help the carrier to notify OCRA, which is responsible for vehicle recoveries.
