NU Online News Service, Feb. 23, 3:55 p.m. EST?Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani is scheduled to speak on leadership at the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (Big "I") annual meeting Sept. 12 in New York City, the organization announced.[@@]

Mr. Giuliani, who served as mayor from 1993-2001, gained publicity while in office for fighting crime, revitalizing the city and displaying leadership in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Mr. Giuliani, who is sometimes mentioned as a potential Republican presidential candidate, is also the author of a successful book, "Leadership."

He will speak on that topic to the Alexandria, Va.-based organization's membership.

Big "I" Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Rusbuldt said Mr. Giuliani "knows what it means to inspire and motivate people in difficult times?in short, how to lead."

"His insights will not only be interesting and enjoyable but also greatly useful to independent insurance agents and brokers and how they can lead, in their agencies and their communities, all over America."

Mr. Rusbuldt added that Mr. Giuliani is an expert on risk assessment and management and knows the insurance and financial services industry well.

While serving as U.S. Attorney in Manhattan, Mr. Giuliani's office brought a number of high profile prosecutions against Wall Street executives for insider trading.

The Big "I" Convention will take place at the Hilton New York and will also feature business speakers, panels of insurance industry leaders and workshops.

The meeting also offers Best Practices Management Institute sessions and a Sept 9 Young Agent Sales & Leadership Conference.

The Young Agent conference will offer teaching to young producers in skills to prepare them to assume leadership of their agencies and the independent agency system.
