State Farm Agent New Ind. Commissioner
NU Online News Service, Jan. 3, 2:55 p.m. EST?State Farm insurance agent Harold Calloway was named Indiana insurance commissioner last month by Gov.-elect Mitch Daniels.[@@]
In making the announcement, the recently elected GOP governor took a swipe at his Democratic predecessor's running of the insurance department.
" Indiana's insurance department has a national reputation for slowness and poor service," Mr. Daniels said in a press release issued last week. "We were once a capital of the insurance industry. Along with broadening consumer choices, Harold will have the assignment to work at recapturing some of the good-paying jobs we have lost in the industry."
A State Farm insurance agent since 1985, Mr. Calloway has also been a Head Start teacher and director of financial aid at the University of Southern Indiana.
He will succeed Acting Commissioner Amy Strati, who took over last year for Commissioner Sally McCarty.
