New Commissioner Takes Reins In Utah

NU Online News Service, Jan. 7, 2:59 p.m. EST?D. Kent Michie, an investment banker, has taken over as Utah insurance commissioner, replacing Merwin Stewart, whose term ended Dec. 31, 2004.[@@]

Mr. Michie, a Salt Lake resident, was a vice president of public finance with Zions Bank and has served as an advisor on bond issues for the state. As a banker he was involved in public financing and consulted on the underwriting of bonds for public infrastructure projects throughout the state. He is a licensed securities agent.

Mr. Stewart had served in his post since Feb. 7, 1997 when he was appointed by Gov. Michael Leavitt.
