NU Online News Service, Dec. 15, 3:52, p.m. EST?The developer of new software for estimating a home's replacement value is offering free trials on a Web site and said yesterday that when the software goes on sale he will charge 33 to 50 percent less than competitors.[@@]

John Postava, president of Simultaneous Solutions (SiMSOL), based in Orlando, said the program, accessible by registering at www.simsol.com, is currently getting most of its use from carriers, although any consumer can log on.

Mr. Postava told National Underwriter that the rates for industry users will be either individual evaluation charges for occasional use or a site license charge for carriers.

The program is based on data from the Craftsman's National Building Cost Manual, which supplies square foot costs for building homes based on materials and design features. Users answer six questions related to the size of the home and the materials used to build it.

Mr. Postava said that based on user feedback from the current test, 95 percent find the software easy to use, would recommend it to others, and would use it again.

He said the program, which currently estimates only residential homes, will be expanded to evaluate commercial, multi-residential and agricultural buildings.
