Idaho Governor Names Aide Insurance Director

During Gov. Kempthorne's stint in the U.S. Senate, Mr. Smith served as his senior deputy legislative director and advisor on issues related to small business, as well as financial and regulatory issues including insurance and banking.

Mr. Smith first entered public service when he was elected to the Boise City Council in 1987. Three years later he was named administrative assistant to Mr. Kempthorne, who was then mayor of the city.

From 1978 through 1990, Mr. Smith was vice president and general manager of The Mode, Ltd. in downtown Boise where he managed all aspects of that retail business with more than 100 employees.
