Former Michigan Commissioner Fitzgerald Dies
NU Online News Service, Dec. 10, 4:20 p.m. EST?Frank Fitzgerald, a former Michigan legislator and insurance commissioner died on Thursday he was 49.
Mr. Fitzgerald's death was confirmed to Matt Hubbard, a spokesperson for Clark Hill, the Michigan law firm in which Fitzgerald was a partner.
Mr. Fitzgerald worked in the Lansing, Mich. office of the law firm. According to the Associated Press Mr. Fitzgerald was stricken while at La Guardia Airport in New York. The cause of his death was not given.
In 2000, Fitzgerald was appointed Michigan Commissioner of Financial and Insurance Services.
Prior to that, he was a state representative for Eaton County from 1987-1999.
OFIS Commissioner Linda A. Watters issued the following statement:
"Frank Fitzgerald was a dedicated public servant and this is truly a tragedy. He served with distinction for many years in the Legislature and was an energetic and capable leader as the first Commissioner of the Office of Financial and Insurance Services. He will truly be missed by all who knew him, and the State of Michigan today has lost a great man."
