NU Online News Service, October 12, 4:10 p.m. EDT?SurfControl today released the newest version of its e-mail filtering software to protect insurance and other business enterprises against e-mail borne viruses and other threats.[@@]

According to Scotts Valley, Calif.-based SurfControl, E-mail Filter 5.0 offers unique protection against phishing attacks, spyware and fraud.

Phishing, sometimes called carding or brand spoofing, involves the sending of legitimate-appearing e-mails disguised as mailings from major sites in an effort to draw personal and financial data from the target recipient.

The company said the new filter provides heightened anti-spam defense through an enhanced Anti-Spam Agent that employs unique e-mail protection, the company noted.

SurfControl E-mail Filter 5.0 also provides enhanced international language support for confidential data scanning, to ensure that sensitive company data is protected from inadvertent or malicious disclosure, no matter what language the e-mail is sent in.

"E-mail threats are no longer just an IT problem, they are an enterprise problem with potentially damaging impact to the bottom line," said Paris Trudeau, SurfControl's senior product marketing manager. "Security breaches, legal liabilities, confidential data loss, and reduced employee productivity and network performance are all direct effects of the new wave of e-mail borne attacks."

SurfControl E-mail Filter 5.0 is priced at $19 per user, based on an installation of 500 users, the company said. The Anti-Virus Agent is an optional plug-in component and costs an average of $9.50 per user based on an installation of 500 users.
