NU Online News Service, Oct. 28, 12:05 p.m. EDT?The Chubb Corporation attained the highest score possible on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation 2004 annual report card on corporate America's treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, the insurer announced.[@@]
This is the second consecutive year that Chubb has received a rating of 100 percent, according to the company.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation's report card--the Corporate Equality Index--rates Fortune 500 and other major companies on a scale 0-100 percent on seven key indicators of fair treatment for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees. These indicators include policies prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity and health care benefits for employees' partners.
The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender political organization with members throughout the country. The group lobbies Congress, provides campaign support and educates the public to ensure that LGBT Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
"For more than a century, The Chubb Corporation has been known for treating its employees with fairness, dignity and respect; therefore we take particular pride in achieving a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index," said Chubb Chairman and Chief Executive John Finnegan.
He noted that Chubb's policies continue to be guided "by the belief that Chubb's success rests largely on our ability to create an inclusive work environment that motivates all employees to reach their full potential to contribute to results. We are pleased that this has led us to be recognized as a leading employer by the HRC and by the LGBT community."
