Allied Agency Continues After Death of Smith

NU Online News Service, Oct. 5, 1:01 p.m. EDT?The board of Allied Specialty Insurance Company Inc., a privately-held insurance agency based in Treasure Island, Fla., announced that operations are continuing following the death of company chairman David H. Smith.[@@]

Mr. Smith died Sept. 21 of medical complications. He was 48.

Allied's management team will remain in place and interim chief executive officer responsibilities have been assumed by the board which will oversee the day-to-day operation of the company, the announcement said.

Mr. Smith's widow, Mary Chris, will continue as a member of the board of directors and will become more involved in the daily operations of the company as well, the management said.

Board member Don Culpepper commented, "The business of the company will go on as usual. David was a brilliant man and he will be greatly missed. Fortunately, he had foreseen this eventuality and had prepared the company thoroughly for it. Our customers and associates can be assured that we have an excellent management team in place to take the company forward. David's vision and legacy will continue."
