IBA West Names Payan CEO

NU Online News Service, Sept. 2, 12:04 a.m. EDT?Clark Payan was named chief executive officer of the Insurance Brokers & Agents of the West.[@@]

Mr. Payan succeeds Jerry O'Kane, who retired yesterday after 22 years of service to the organization.

Mr. Payan will continue as president of IBA West Service Corp., where he has served since 1999.

IBA West is a regional trade association that represents independent insurance brokers and agents in California, Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

A graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Mr. Payan began his insurance career in 1979 with Payan-Stitt Corporation, an independent insurance agency operated by his family in Palos Heights, Ill.

After several years as an account executive there, he moved to Denver where he held positions in the underwriting and marketing departments of Aetna Life & Casualty PFSD.

In 1986, he moved to San Francisco and served as agency services director for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of California. He returned to Payan-Stitt in 1988.

In 1991, Payan-Stitt consolidated with Wm. H. Thompson & Company to form Payan, Alberts & Thompson, Ltd. Mr. Payan served as president and chief operating officer of Payan, Alberts & Thompson, Ltd. until December of 1998. In January 1999, he returned to the Bay Area and IBA West.
