Dept. Of Justice To Probe AIG
NU Online News Service, Sept. 29, 5:10 p.m. EDT?American International Group, Inc., said that its subsidiary AIG Financial Products Corp. has been informed by the U. S. Department of Justice that it is a target of an investigation involving possible violations of the federal securities laws.
The New York City-based carrier said late today that it believes the notification relates to the same matter described in its announcement last week that the Securities and Exchange Commission Staff is considering recommending that the Commission bring a civil action alleging violations of the federal securities laws.
AIG went on to say that it believes any action by either the SEC or Justice Department would be unwarranted. It added that it intends to cooperate in the investigation.
