Lloyd's: New L.A. Office Has Joseph As Head

NU Online News Service, Aug. 16, 2:18 p.m. EDT?Lloyd's insurance market announced today it is opening a Los Angeles office to develop its business on the West Coast.[@@]

Tony Joseph has been appointed to head the office and serve as senior vice president of Lloyd's America, Inc. He will report directly to Wendy Baker, president of Lloyd's America, Lloyd's said. He will assume the post Sept. 7.

The office, Lloyd's said, will have the principal goal of enhancing the market's trading platform in four states?California, Oregon, Washington and Arizona. It will also work to strengthen relationships with brokers, clients and reinsurance buyers. Lloyd's already has offices in New York, Chicago and Kentucky.

Mr. Joseph, prior to heading the new office, was senior vice president at Guy Carpenter & Company in California.

Mr. Joseph in 1965 was a Lloyd's broker and also has worked as a Lloyd's underwriter.

Ms. Baker said the new office demonstrates Lloyd's "commitment to serve the American market, to strengthen our relationships with brokers and clients, and to grow our business in the United States."

Lloyd's said its U.S. business has more than doubled in the last five years to $8.4 billion.
