By Caroline McDonald
NU Online News Service, July 20, 1:10 p.m. EDT?The Captive Insurance Companies Association announced its fall meeting will be Oct. 11 in Burlington, Vt., with catastrophic risks and the London Market among the topics.[@@]
Speakers are scheduled to discuss a view of the captive market, with Dr. Thomas Holzheu of SwissRe's Economic Research and Consulting Unit; Jan. 1 renewals and the London market, with Ian Oakley of Aspen Re in London; quantifying catastrophic risks, with Carl G. Hedde with American Re; and investments for captive companies, with Claude Parenteau with SEB Asset Management America Inc.
"We haven't done anything in the catastrophe and those natural incidents on our program in quite a while," said Carl Modecki, CICA president and principle of Carl A. Modecki Consulting Services in Port St. Lucie, Fla. "And we haven't had anyone from the London Market, so that's why we included Aspen Re."
The annual networking meeting is free to CICA members.
Mr. Modecki told National Underwriter that the fall conference began as a members' only meeting for CICA four years ago. The meeting is now open to non-members such as captive owners. Last year he said 95 attended the meeting in Dallas, Texas, and this year he expects more than 125 to attend.
The meetings will take place in various domiciles, with 2005 to be held on Grand Cayman, he noted.
