Bailie Elected Chairman of Vesta Insurance

NU Online News Service, June 2, 4:16 p.m. EDT?Vesta Insurance Group Inc., a Birmingham, Ala.-based carrier focusing on personal-insurance products, said the company has elected Tambra Bailie as non-executive chairman for its board of directors.[@@]

The insurer also added a new member to its board, electing insurance attorney Kevin Tierney as a director, the company said.

A resident of Birmingham, Ms. Bailie, 45, is a certified public accountant who has been serving as a Vesta director since January 2003. She retired in 2001 following a 21-year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Mr. Tierney, 52, the newly elected board member, has been in private legal practice since 2000 after 23 years with UNUM Corp., where he served in various roles, including senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Mr. Tierney's legal practice has focused on insurance, reinsurance and corporate law, reinsurance arbitration and mediation.

Vesta Insurance Group offers preferred, standard, and nonstandard auto and homeowners insurance, including dwelling fire and personal catastrophe umbrella. The company sells its products through independent agencies. For the 2004 first quarter, the company reported $14.9 million for net income from continuing operations.
