IIAB of N.Y. Elects New Leadership

NU Online News Service, May 6, 3:36 p.m. EDT?The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York has elected David R. Bauer, president of Capitol Bauer Insurance Agency Inc. in Albany, N.Y., as its board chairman.[@@]

His selection for a one-year term was announced today during the Syracuse, N.Y., association's annual business meeting held in Bolton Landing, N.Y.

Mr. Bauer said the association under his leadership will continue to educate the public on insurance issues and remain a strong advocate for insurance agent and broker interests. During the next 12 months, he added, the association will intensify efforts to engage younger members to become more involved in the industry and the organization.

The other officers elected to one-year terms were:

? Chairman-elect Mark J. Hagan, president and treasurer of the Perry & Carroll Agency in Elmira, N.Y.

? Secretary/Treasurer Sharon H. Emek, a managing director of CBS Coverage Group in New York City.

The association gave out the following awards:

? The Community Service Award for public service to Dale R. Peter, president of Crown Agency Inc. in North Tonawanda, N.Y.

? Outstanding Local President Award for leadership of the Independent Insurance Agents of Westchester County to George L. Goodman, vice president of Arnold K. Davis & Co. in Purchase, N.Y.

? The annual Charlie Award for Public Relations to John Stype, president of Neefus-Stype & Sons in Aquebogue, N.Y.

? Paul W. Babbitt, chief executive officer of Niagara National Inc. in Buffalo, N.Y., and Vincent Alba, Thomas Dietz and Steven J. Spiro received distinguished service awards.

Edgar J. Higgins Jr., owner of the Thousand Islands Agency in Clayton, N.Y. was honored by the American Association of Managing General Agents with the association's Achievement Award for his past service as chairman of the Agents Council for Technology.
