Symington Joins IIABA

NU Online News Service, Feb. 17, 4:22 p.m. EST?The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America announced that Charles E. Symington Jr., formerly senior counsel to the House Financial Services Committee will head its federal government affairs program.

Mr. Symington will take the title of senior vice president of federal government affairs.

Robert A. Rusbuldt, chief executive officer of the Alexandria, Va.-based association, noted that during Mr. Symington's service with Financial Services Committee, he focused on insurance issues, including congressional efforts to assess state insurance regulation.

Mr. Rusbuldt said Mr. Symington would bring a wealth of insurance and Hill experience including work with the Financial Services Committee for the last three years and before that with the Energy & Commerce Committee.

Mr. Symington was involved in the drafting of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002, the Financial Services Anti-Fraud bill, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003, and other legislative proposals.

During his time with the Committee on Energy and Commerce, he concentrated on health care policy and the panel's oversight responsibilities.

IIABA also announced the promotions of Wes Bissett to senior vice president of government affairs and state relations, and Justin Roth to vice president of government affairs.
