Malpractice Gets CAS Meeting Spotlight

NU Online News Service, Feb. 3, 10:07 a.m. EST?Doctors, lawyers and insurance professionals will dissect the factors behind the medical malpractice insurance crisis at the Casualty Actuarial Society's annual Ratemaking Seminar March 11-12 in Philadelphia, CAS said.[@@]

CAS, based in Arlington, Va., said malpractice will be one of the 50 topics discussed at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza. Other sessions will cover data management and technology, workers' compensation, commercial lines, personal lines, risk and capital management, reinsurance, regulatory and specialty topics.

The Society said the seminar provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of ratemaking methods, concepts and issues. Sessions are available for insurance professionals with ratemaking knowledge levels that vary from limited to advanced.

CAS said because of the proximity of many actuarial students to the Philadelphia area, the seminar will feature an expanded basic track with opportunities for actuaries to further their continuing education.

The seminar fee is $650 for active candidates, Affiliates, Associates and Fellows of the CAS. For non-CAS members it is $750 and $325 for government employees, if received on or before Feb. 25. Fees increase $50 after this date.

CAS provides registration information by telephone, (703) 276-3100, or online at www.casact.org.
