NCOIL Restricts Access To Web Site Areas

NU Online News Service, Jan. 27, 3:49 p.m. EST?The National Conference of Insurance Legislators said today that on Sunday certain sectors of the group?fs Web site will become password-protected, and there will be a charge for some information on the site.

NCOIL, based in Albany, N.Y., said the change will make private NCOIL-adopted legislation models and resolutions, reports and issue briefs; and future NCOIL meeting minutes and meeting reports.

The decision to close access to the www.ncoil.org site was voted by legislators last summer, and the restricted system has been in development since that time. NCOIL said legislators from NCOIL-member states will continue to receive full access to the Web site.

Registrants for future NCOIL meetings will receive e-mail notification of temporary passwords, which will grant access to that conference?fs minutes and meeting report for several months following.

Interested parties who do not attend an NCOIL meeting will be charged a fee for that conference?fs minutes and meeting report. Additional fees will be charged for adopted NCOIL models and resolutions, among other restricted documents. The NCOIL National Office can provide further information regarding price and availability.

All committee working drafts will remain open to the public until their official adoption by NCOIL. Other items that will remain public include the monthly newsletter (the NCOILetter); news releases; information regarding upcoming meetings, hearings, and general sessions; committee membership lists; charges for NCOIL standing committees; and specifics regarding the NCOIL Almanac, among others.
