PlanView, Inc., a portfolio, resource, and project management solutions provider, is launching its PlanView Portfolio Management Version 7.3 this month. The product offers carriers an integrated governance model, strategic management, and resource and work management. The governance model includes processes for selecting the right work and using resources productively. Strategic management entails defining, scoring, and prioritizing investment opportunities to pick the right work and measure performance. Resource and work management encompass planning and managing how resources are assigned to getting projects done.
Premera Blue Cross, which operates in Washington state and Alaska, has been using earlier versions of the portfolio management product, and Matthew Bohan, senior systems consultant for Premera, believes the system has helped the insurer better manage its projects. Users go into PlanView and allocate resources to the tasks, he says. And from there, they produce project documentation and a repository for reports.
Premera has achieved both qualitative and quantitative results from using the project management tool. It is a gateway for all our projects, says Bohan. It definitely has helped in the quality of our projects. The system demands a greater level of development before [the project] comes to [the systems team]. The systems project capacity and easy maintenance of the system allow Premera to save some of its IT resources, according to Bohan.
New portfolio portals deliver investment and performance information directly to the desktop of the right person. In addition, Prisms, PlanViews real-time business processes, is extended to the Project Management product to include investment stage/gates and dynamically built investment and project lifecycles. New resource and work management features include an enhanced Web-based time and expense billing module and a new resource managers portal to supply real-time information on overloads, staff availability, unfulfilled requirements, group performance, and more.
PlanView has a successful history in resource and project management, says PlanView CEO and founder Patrick Durbin. It is a natural extension for us to move into strategic business management and to address investment analysis. We understand the metrics needed to rank, score, and prioritize investment opportunities and the performance information that keep investment owners informed.
Among the features of the new version are:
Strategic managementThese functions use an investment model to rank and score investment opportunities, with an investment owner having varying levels of control via an Investment Portfolio Portal, and a Portfolio Performance Portal for stakeholders and managers.
Prisms real-time business processesPlanViews business processes define a governance model for turning ideas into assets and include investment management to mitigate project risks and enhance investment performance through an integrated investment and project stage/gate process.
Expanded and enhanced PlanView portalsThe portals support real-time enterprises and adaptive workspaces for investment owners, portfolio managers, and resource managers: Investment Portfolio Portal, Performance Portfolio Portal, and Resource Portal.
Enhanced resource capacity planningThe PlanView Resource Portal provides real-time staff and contractor metrics, analytics, and real-time usage and capacity information, while Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) conversions let organizations conduct resource capacity planning.
Dynamic project lifecyclesFlexible lifecycles allow process architects to build interactive screens that lead the appropriate roles through the lifecycle and redirect the project steps based on the information collected.
Tracking investment costs and benefitsExpanded tools manage and track the time-phased cost and benefits of projects and products.
In addition: The time and expense billing module adds pay codes to meet international standards and U.S. state standards for time collection. Full-text search has been added to the content management functions, and improved analysis helps evaluate the possible impact of changes, risks, and issues to projects.
PlanView solutions are defined by user role, base products, and premium products. User roles define security and access rights to software functions. The base products include the Prisms process library and software infrastructure. PlanView Portfolio Management Version 7.3 is licensed by the role, plus base and premium products. Typical configurations start at $50,000. Customers also now have the option to implement strategic management or resource and work management, with an upgrade path to complete portfolio management.
PlanView Portfolio Management Version 7.3 in English will be available in June. Version 7.3 in French, German, or Italian will be available in September.
