AIA Adds Five Insurers As Members

NU Online News Service, Dec. 3, 2:46 p.m. EST?The Washington, D.C.-based American Insurance Association said yesterday that the 406-member trade group added five new insurers to the organization last month.[@@]

Elected to membership by the AIA board on Nov. 12 were Employers Insurance Group, Federated Insurance, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group USA, SeaBright Insurance and W. R. Berkley Corporation

AIA President Robert E. Vagley said the association looks forward to working with the new members "to help drive our collective public policy agenda forward."

Employers Insurance Group, based in Reno, Nev., provides workers' compensation insurance, claims management, loss prevention consulting, underwriting and care management services, and has direct written premiums totaling $114 million.

Federated Insurance in Owatonna, Minn., is a property-casualty mutual insurance company writing personal and commercial lines with 2003 direct written premiums projected at $1.4 billion.

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group USA, based in Warren, N.J.,
is part of Japan's Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, Ltd, and specializes in providing commercial property and casualty insurance, loss control, claims administration, and rehabilitation services with personal lines insurance services. Gross written premium in 2002 totaled $295.6 million

SeaBright Insurance Company, based in Seattle, Wash., is a new company that began operating this October as a specialty workers' compensation insurer providing comprehensive loss control and claim management solutions.

W. R. Berkley Corporation, based in Greenwich, Conn., provides specialty insurance, alternative markets, reinsurance, regional property-casualty insurance and international coverage. The corporation's 2002 direct written premiums were $2.4 billion.

AIA said, in addition to the five mentioned, other leading insurers that have become AIA members this year include Arch Capital and USAA.
