Republic Group Has New CEO After Losing Milligan

By Michael Ha

NU Online News Service, Nov. 18, 1:16 p.m. EST?The Republic Group of Insurance Companies has named Parker Rush chief executive officer, filling the post that was held by Bruce Robert Milligan, who died unexpectedly from a heart ailment last August.

Mr. Rush will succeed Bruce Schnitzer, who has been serving as Republic's interim CEO following the unexpected death of Mr. Milligan Aug. 30. Mr. Schnitzer will continue to serve as the company's chairman.

Mr. Rush, who will take on his new role next month, has been with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies for more than 20 years, most recently working as its senior vice president, managing director and manager of Chubb's business in the southern United States.

"I have been looking for an opportunity where I could run a regional company primarily focused on Texas," said Mr. Rush, "and as you know, there are not a lot of those opportunities around. When I got the call from the search firm on Republic, it really felt like it was my next step."

Since the Republic is based in Dallas, he can also capitalize on his previous agency relationships in the southwestern region, Mr. Rush told National Underwriter. "This seemed like a natural fit for me," he said.

The Republic Group is a medium-sized provider of property and auto insurance for individuals and commercial insurance for businesses in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The company had previously been part of Zurich, Switzerland-based Winterthur, but last August it was acquired by a U.S. buyout group led by Wand Partners Inc., a New York-based private equity investment group.
