General Re Corporation Is "Gen Re"
NU Online News Service, Oct. 20, 11:39 a.m. EDT?Stamford, Conn.-based General Re Corp. announced last week that it has changed the trade name of its reinsurance operations to 'Gen Re' on a global basis.
Commenting on the announcement, Joseph P. Brandon, chairman and chief executive officer, said: "Nine years ago we started the process of bringing together two companies--General Re and Cologne Re--with rich histories, profitable traditions and talented staffs. Since then we have worked to build General Re and Cologne Re into one organization operating successfully across the globe."
Having achieved improved underwriting results around the world, he said, "now is the right time to recognize these accomplishments by changing our global trade name to Gen Re."
"While we will always be proud of our various heritages, today we are one organization with broad capabilities," Mr. Brandon said
General Re Corporation, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is a holding company for global reinsurance and related risk management operations. It owns General Reinsurance Corporation and a controlling interest in Cologne Re.
