VCIA Adds Outreach Seminars

By Caroline McDonald

NU Online News Service, August 13, 3:35 p.m. EDT?The Vermont Captive Insurance Association determined it's marketing outreach seminars to be so successful that it has scheduled two more this year–in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 15; and in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 6.

Last year, the association held seminars in New York, Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco, "ostensibly to promote captive insurance as a mechanism of managing risk, but also it touted the Vermont domicile as the place to do it," said Molly Lambert, VCIA president.

She said the seminars worked so well because panels were made up of experts from the region of the country where the seminars were held. She said VCIA looks at areas where there is a substantial membership base because members serve as "ambassadors" for the program.

Ms. Lambert noted that names of attendees are added to the association's database which has led to added interest in educational seminars. "We also think that part of the increase in our membership is due to some of these folks," she said.

Locations for two other seminars are still undecided, she said.

The calendar of events for the next year includes a board meeting and educational seminar in Burlington, Vt., Sept. 23; a board meeting, educational seminar and holiday reception in Burlington, Vt., Dec. 11; Legislative Day in Montpelier, Vt., Jan. 14.; and a board member and educational seminar in Burlington, Vt., in March.

The 2004 annual conference is scheduled Aug. 10-12 at the Sheraton Hotel in Burlington, Vt., according to VCIA.
