XL Capital Global Risk Conference In Switzerland

NU Online News Service, July 21, 3:11 p.m. EDT?XL Capital Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda, announced today it will host its first global risk conference, with speakers drawn from politics, science, economics and academia, on Sept. 4-5 in Montreux, Switzerland.

The XL Capital Congress, on the theme "Thought Leadership for a World at Risk," will put a sharper perspective on the business of risk, an XL executive said.

XL said the conference was previously known as the WinConference, which was organized by Winterthur International before its acquisition by XL Insurance (Bermuda) Ltd. in 2001. The meeting, XL said, will continue the tradition of the previous international business forum. It will feature a diverse range of international speakers and panelists, XL said.

The first day of the program will focus on world risk with former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Cohen; Mike Moore, former WTO director and prime minister of New Zealand; and Jan Pronk, former Dutch minister for the environment and president of the Kyoto Conference, among the speakers.

Day two will examine global business issues with Michael A. Butt, chairman of AXIS Capital Holdings Limited, moderating a panel of business executives discussing transferring global business risks.

XL President and Chief Executive Officer Brian M. O'Hara said: "Our industry tends to adopt a slightly blinkered view of risk. What the XL Capital Congress 2003 will do is encourage us to remove the blinkers and look at global risk through a different lens that will bring existing perspectives into sharper focus.."

He said the forum will offer "new insights on issues that directly impact our business strategies. I predict that this event will be both challenging and rewarding."

"It is a not-to-be-missed educational and networking opportunity for corporate executives charged with leading their businesses through an environment in which levels of risk that were once considered unacceptable have become part of everyday life and part of the challenge of risk management on a global scale."

The company said a full program of the XL Capital Congress presentations and speaker details will be announced soon.
