NCCI Names Clark Chief Public Policy Officer

NU Online News Service, July 2, 3:00 p.m. EDT?Chapin Clark, previously acting chief executive officer for the National Council on Compensation Insurance, has been named to the newly created post of chief public policy officer at the rate setting group, NCCI said.

Steve Klingel, president and CEO at NCCI in Boca Raton, Fla. announced the appointment is effective Aug. 1.

In addition to serving as project lead on selected initiatives, in his new position Mr. Clark will focus on assisting the organization in executing strategies that require partnership with other industry constituents, NCCI said.

Mr. Clark will also help ensure that NCCI enjoys "credibility and effectiveness in the industry with regard to broad corporate plans and strategies." The current reporting relationships, divisional assignments and responsibilities of other members of the senior management team will remain unchanged, NCCI said.

"Chapin's dedication and optimism have been critical to NCCI's internal and external successes during the past two years since he has rejoined the company," Mr. Klingel said. "I am very pleased today to announce that we will continue to benefit from his experience and leadership for the foreseeable future."

Mr. Clark had retired from NCCI in 1998. He returned to the company as interim president in 2001, following the resignation of Bill Schrempf. Mr. Klingel was named president and CEO in September 2002. At Mr. Klingel's request, Mr. Clark has continued to serve in a transitional roll as a senior policy advisor for the past eleven months.

Mr. Clark, in his last position before retirement, headed NCCI's Regulatory Division.
