NU Online News Service, Jan. 24, 4:24 p.m. EST?Neal N. Nakashima, executive vice president of Aon Risk Services in Honolulu, Hawaii has been selected new president of the Insurance Brokers & Agents of the West, the organization said.

The announcement of Mr. Nakashima as president and other new officers, was made after the Oakland, Calif.? based agent association's business meeting this week in Los Angeles.

Andrew Valdivia, vice president of White & Co., Insurance Inc., in Santa Monica, Calif., was named president-elect.

Gerald H. "Jerry" Miller, president of Miller-Robertson Insurance Services, Inc., with offices in Novato and Ventura, Calif., was named director.

The association said it also passed several resolutions dealing with credit scoring, mold coverage related to homeowners policies and the lifting of a hiring freeze on self-funded state agencies.

IBA West said regulators should allow credit scoring as long as insurers establish an actuarial relationship between the individuals scores and loss relationship. Carriers must also show the scoring does not discriminate against the consumer, the group said.

On the mold coverage issue, the association objected to the passage of any bill forcing carriers to provide coverage for mold damage until scientific research on the health impact of mold is completed.

The association also established the Anthony J. DiBuduo Award in memory of the Anthony J. "Cheech" DiBuduo, founder of DiBuduo & Defendis Insurance Group headquartered in Fresno, Calif. and an active leader in the industry and the association.

The award will go to an outstanding young agent or broker in the association.
