Former Gephart Aide To Lobby For AIA
NU Online News Service, Jan. 9, 3:53 p.m. EST? The American Insurance Association in Washington, D. C. said it has appointed Moses Mercado, an attorney and previously deputy chief of staff to former House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt, as vice president, federal affairs.
AIA said Mr. Mercado would be a "key player" in its federal affairs department, which advocates AIA member company public policy positions before Congress, as well as to the federal executive and judicial branches.
"Moses brings with him a wealth of experience, talent, and a keen understanding of how things work on Capitol Hill. We are very pleased to add him to our team," said Leigh Ann Pusey, AIA senior vice president, federal affairs.
Mr. Mercado, 39, was a top aide to Gephardt for five years, also serving as senior policy adviser and as the Missouri Democrat's chief adviser on Latino issues. Previously, Mercado worked as chief of staff for Rep. Gene Green,D-Texas.
