ISO System Offers Police Accident Reports
NU Online New Service, Nov. 11, 4:04 p.m. EST? Police accident reports can now be accessed through the Insurance Services Office, Inc. ClaimSearch antifraud system, according to ISO.
Jersey City, N.J.-based ISO said the enhancement of its ClaimSearch service includes access through its Web site to a wide range of police, fire, coroner and Department of Motor Vehicle reports from tens of thousands of agencies, with complete coverage nationwide and in Canada.
The company said that offering police reports through the ISO ClaimSearch platform makes claims handling and investigations more efficient.
With the click of a mouse, a screen is automatically prefilled with required information?ready to initiate a request for a police report?saving time and costs in investigations and claims processing, ISO explained.
"This is another milestone in our program to help customers streamline the claims handling process," said Richard P. Boehning, ISO senior vice president.
ISO is providing the searches in partnership with Metropolitan Reporting Bureau. ISO said MRB is the first company to specialize in obtaining all types of reports nationwide for the claims industry. MRB uses mapping and imaging technology to accurately track down and deliver reports, ISO noted.
ISO ClaimSearch subscribers can request police accident reports, incident reports and photographs; fire reports; and vehicle title history, driver history, and vehicle registration and insurance information, the company said. Other information available includes weather reports, OSHA reports, coroner reports and death certificates. 
ISO ClaimSearch bills itself as the world's largest repository of insurance claims, with more than 310 million claim records and third-party information. ISO said insurers representing more than 92 percent of the U.S. property-casualty industry in premium volume use the system.
ISO said its ClaimSearch is a cooperative effort of more than 2,000 insurers, 1,000 self-insured entities, 450 third-party administrators, state workers' compensation insurance funds and other organizations. Information is available through host-to-host transmissions and the ISO ClaimSearch secure Internet information-delivery platform.
