British Insurer To Use Clear Technology Platform

NU Online News Service, Oct. 28, 9:36 a.m. EST?Software maker Clear Technology, Inc. of Westminster, Colo., said today it has licensed its Tranzax platform, which the makers said will automate a great variety of back office functions, to a British property-casualty insurer.

The terms of the agreement with Norwich Union Insurance, of Norwich England were not disclosed.

In an interview, Clear Technology executives said that the company charges under $1 million for each different domain that it licenses.

Clear said that Norwich, in a pilot earlier this year, used the software to process subrogation claims that involve making recovery from third parties.

John Kendall, founder and director of Clear, said the Tranzax software has the capacity to automate claims processes that involve an extensive series of tasks. Mr. Kendall said subrogation involves 165 discrete activities.

"It takes the drudgery out of the process," said Mr. Kendall. The result is that claims personnel work on only those cases that require real judgment calls, he said.

Simon Machell, claims director at Norwich, in a statement released by Clear, said the subrogation process "is dependent on human intervention to ensure that all appropriate actions are carried out. Tranzax eliminates the potential for human error, giving us the desired process each and every time."

Mr. Kendall said that the Tranzax software leverages existing legacy systems and moves employees from "green screens" to user friendly technology on PCs.

Peter Bryant, chief executive officer of Clear, said his company has been negotiating with a U.S. auto insurer which found in production simulations that it had a 40 to 50 percent labor efficiency gain in processing medical injury claims using Tranzax. He declined to name the company.

Executives with Clear said that in the course of tailoring the software to a company, they do a study with the firm to observe them at work and record all the processes that they are involved in.
