Accountability Is Nonprofit RM Confab Focus

NU Online News Service, Oct. 10, 1:22 p.m. EST?The Nonprofit Risk Management Center announced that it is still taking registration for its conference that opens Sunday in Washington.

Attendees of the 2002 Nonprofit Risk Management Institutes will learn how risk management creates a foundation for accountability, according to the association.

The conference for leaders of nonprofit organizations ends Oct. 15. It comprises three general sessions and 40 workshops. Keynote speakers are Robert A. Watson, retired national commander of the Salvation Army; David L. Mair, former director of risk and purchasing management for the U.S. Olympic Committee; and Steven V. Roberts, Shapiro professor of media and public affairs, George Washington University.

The association said 40 workshops will cover nonprofit risk management issues including economical methods for securing premises, incorporating guidelines into employee policies to prevent intentional intellectual property theft, identifying signs of escalating violent behavior in the workplace, and minimizing the likelihood of sexual harassment claims.

Co-sponsors include the American Red Cross; Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations; The National Catholic Risk Retention Group Inc.; National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; National Mentoring Partnership; The Salvation Army; Washington Council of Agencies; the YWCA of the USA; YMCA of the USA; Camp Fire; Boys Scouts of America; and Girls Scouts of the USA.
