Sen. Bradley Joins Willis Board
NU Online News Service, Sept. 18, 3:43 p.m. EST?Former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley has joined the board of directors of Willis Group, the London-based insurance broker announced today.
Joe Plumeri, chairman and chief operating officer of Willis, had high praise for Mr. Bradley, adding that his presence on the board would be "invaluable" as the broker continues to grow.
"Willis has a great history of which it is rightly proud, and since its re-emergence as a publicly traded company in June of last year, it clearly has taken significant strides in the global insurance marketplace," Mr. Bradley said in a statement. "I hope I can make a contribution to the Group's development."
Mr. Bradley gained fame as a professional basketball player with the New York Knicks from 1967 to 1977, and later served as senator from New Jersey from 1979 to 1997. He made an unsuccessful run for the presidency as a candidate in the 2000 Democratic primary elections.
According to Willis, Mr. Bradley, 59, is currently a managing director of Allen & Co. and chief outside advisor to McKinsey & Company's non-profit practice.
From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Bradley was a senior advisor and vice-chairman of the International Council of JP Morgan & Co. Inc. During that time, he served as an essayist for CBS evening news, and visiting professor at Stanford University, University of Notre Dame, and the University of Maryland.
He currently sits on the boards of Eastman Kodak and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
