NU Online News Service, Aug. 6, 10:25 a.m. EST?The National Insurance Producer Registry board of directors has confirmed the appointment of Colorado insurance regulator Maryellen Waggoner as executive director.
Ms. Waggoner is leaving her post as Colorado Deputy Commissioner of insurance to take over her new duties at NIPR, based in Kansas City, Mo.
NIPR is a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. It is a public-private partnership that supports the re-engineering and streamlining of the insurance-producer licensing process through uniformity for the benefit of consumers, industry and regulators, NIPR said.
NAIC President and Iowa Insurance Commissioner Terri Vaughan said, "Maryellen has proven experience in insurance regulation, in addition to her extensive involvement in NIPR initiatives." Ms. Vaughan also serves as NIPR board president.
She added that Ms. Waggoner "will be an invaluable asset" to NIPR.
For her part, Ms. Waggoner stated, "I am thrilled about the opportunity and look forward to the new challenges that the job will bring."
The Colorado Insurance Department had revealed Ms. Waggoner's appointment last week when it also announced the resignation of Insurance Commissioner William J. Kirven III, effective Aug. 9.
The Insurance Department said Ms. Waggoner's resignation takes effect Aug. 31.
