NU Online News Service, Aug. 19, 11:40 a.m. EST?The American Association of Managing General Agents said its University Weekend, August 23-25, will include 20 educational programs addressing areas such as toxic mold, running a family business, and technical underwriting such as garage risks
The organization said it expects a record turnout for its upcoming University Weekend, to be held at the Millennium McCormick Ranch Resort, Scottsdale Arizona.
More than 140 Managing General Agents, insurance company representatives, and business associates from the U.S. and abroad will be attending the event, the organization said.
University Weekend offers educational sessions and access to experts and networking opportunities with industry peers, according to AAMGA University.
A keystone educational event is the "London Market-U.S. Underwriting Summit," an interactive session involving representatives of the London market, U.S. underwriters who accept business from AAMGA members, and AAMGA Coverholders.
AAMGA University said the session will examine aspects of the insurance markets relative to underwriting, claims, distribution, best practices, roles, authority, and evolving issues.
In addition, according to the organization, educational classes in the business track include, "Presentation Skills," "Building Success Through Organizational Communication," "Leadership and Laughter," and "Riding a Lawn Mower or a Harley" (Creating a Vision and Action Plans For Tomorrow).
Classes on technical issues in the insurance arena include, "Additional Insureds and Contractual Considerations," "The Wholesaler and Personal Lines," "Underwriting Business Auto," "Earthquake Seminar," "Underwriting Business Income," "Truckers Update," "Introduction To Professional Liability," and "Advanced Professional Liability." Technical programs qualify for state-licensed Continuing Education credits, the organization said.
These courses complement other educational offerings of the AAMGA University that qualify participants with University Credits toward attaining designations of Certified Insurance Wholesaler, Certified Wholesale Insurance Specialist, and Certified Managing General Agency. The first two designations are earned by individuals, and the CMGA is awarded to organizations that meet specific employee educational participation requirements, according to AAMGA University.
